(Spain).- Google Play is changing its policies regarding betting and gambling apps with real money, allowing them to be available in more countries.

Google Play to allow gambling and lottery applications in Spain

Hasta el momento, este tipo de apps solo están permitidas en Reino Unido, Brasil, Irlanda y Francia. Y ahora esta posibilidad se extiende a más países, entre ellos, España.

Google changes its policy on betting apps and lotteries

The Google team mentioned a new list of countries in which ads, games and apps related to "real money gambling" will be allowed. This change in the Google Play policy will begin to apply from March 1, 2021. So developers will have the doors open to publish this type of applications, as long as they respect certain requirements.

And of course, the laws of each country are also considered, so this dynamic will be different in each Play Store. So all the countries that are contemplated under this Google Play policy will have certain restrictions when publishing this type of apps.

For example, in the case of Spain, Google determines:

Applications that include the following types of gambling products are allowed:

- Online casino games

- Sports bets

- Lotteries (only government operators)

- Daily Fantasy sport

And of course, to publish these types of apps, the games must have a license provided by a government authority that allows them to operate in the country that corresponds to the chosen Play Store. These are all the countries supported so far:

Spain, Sweden, the United States, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Germany, and Romania.

Other requirements mentioned by Google is that this type of apps and games cannot be available to minors. The download must be free, and they will not be able to use the Google Play billing system. All details and requirements for interested developers are detailed in the Google Policy Center.
